Going to Paris in February for a week. Has anyone been there in winter and can share some images? What are your favorite spots to photograph other than the Eiffel Tower?

Paris is sort of cold, cloudy and damp in the winter, which might be good if moody, nostalgic shots are your style. It doesn't snow a lot though. Since it's the off-season, it might be a good time to hit some of the indoor tourist hotspots like the Louvre, Notre Dame, Sacre Coeur, etc, which ought to be less crowded than usual. Some of the lesser known museums such as the Foundation LV will be even quieter.

However, it would be nice to check out the ice skating rink in front of Hotel de Ville (city hall) and the Montmartre neighborhood (which I imagine would be very romantic and quaint if you are lucky to get a light dusting of snow).

Thank you, I know it's not the best time to go, but for $300 I'd go in winter

We were there last Feb for a week around Valentine’s Day. Was quite cold, including snow flurries on a couple of mornings. Still we loved it and wouldn’t hesitate to going back. We stayed off the Champs Elysee about 2 blocks from the Arc de Triumphe and ended up walking on average 15 miles a day for the 7 days we were there. The architecture is just amazing with images around every corner. From the grand buildings along the Seine to the intimate side streets of the Marais and the Latin quarter. Do go up at sunset to the top of the Arc De Triumphe for a great nighttime view of the Champs Elysee and the Eiffel Tower.

Lines in the morning for the Louvre and Musee D’orsay were basically non existent. In both cases there might have been 4-5 people in front of us, so it was walk up and go in. However by midday there were quite a few people but still don’t think the lines were over 15-20 minutes. We joined a tour for the Eiffel Tower which supposedly allowed us to skip lines. We went pretty much right in but not sure that we would have waited over 1/2 hr if we went on our own. Atop the tower it was extremely cold. Cold wind and flurries. Definitely take warm jackets, gloves, hats and scarves.

Probably the most crowded area was up on Montmartre around Sacre Couer. We hit it midday and couldn’t get a good shot due to the crowds, and overcast conditions. Do take advantage of the metro as it makes it very easy to get around.

Even with the cold weather we still sat under the heaters of the outdoor cafes and had Parisien hot chocolate and macaroons especially at Laduree. Crepes with ham and cheese along the Seine at the Eiffel Tower. Steak and pomme frites with the most wonderful sauce at Entrecôte which was also quite reasonable. Not a bad meal was had.

We spent a week in Paris then down to Marseille for 5 days. All in all a wonderful time and did not meet a unfriendly face. Everyone went out of there way to help whether it was directions, a waiter, hotel staff or shop keepers. Everyone was extremely friendly.

Send me a PM if you have any specific questions.

Flooding in Paris. Don't know how that will affect your tour of the city.
