This would be mostly for birds in flight. The area in question juts out quite a bit into the marsh, its also great for Bobolinks as well. When ever a bird flies anywhere near me they mostly go off another direction. However If Im in shade under trees they don't change course at all.
This has all been standing. I'm wondering If I get a low chair, and restrict my movements it might just do the trick.
Very interesting info though. I also don't usually use a shade, although it does make the lens a bit longer, the glass not

This is similar to my experience; if I wait in a inconspicuous / shady location and do not move, birds will come near. I feel like they will know something is out of place regardless, blind or no- best to become part of scene quickly and make as little fuss as possible. The longer I am "part of the scenery", the closer birds will come. (though a real permanent blind just becomes part of the scenery over time anyway)

I usually do not have the patience for blinds or waiting, and prefer hiking around with the camera to cover more ground. While doing point counts in the summer though (wait in one spot for 15 minutes, for timed bird detection data) I could expect a bird or two to come real close near the end of each session of not moving (dark clothes in the shade, on a portable "hunting" tripod stool)

Hunting blinds are designed for hunters and are poor solutions for photography. A blind that was designed for use by photographers (and accommodates a tripod's legs) is the Tragopan photo blind, though it is for a single photographer.

The Ameristep chair blinds are another option but they require the user to be in full camo gear including a face mask and dark gloves.

Many blinds made for hunters also use Velcro to secure panels and that means a fair amount of noise when peeling the Velcro away.

Everyone knows that getting down to the level of your subjects produces stronger pictures but

That floating blind video is exciting. Had intentions to build one last spring, but just could not get to it. Thank you for that link.

The most useful information on blinds for photographers I have found on UK websites where they are referred to more accurately as "hides". Trick is to scope out the area and then come back an hour before sunrise and get yourself into position.

One thing I forgot to mention is wind; even the slightest wind can have a considerable purchase on a blind and jostle it about in a way that is very frustrating, requiring it to be pinned down with the stakes that it likely comes with.

Too many wildlife photographers make the assumption that their prey has the same eyesight, hearing, and sense of smell that we do. That is far from the truth. Those that have far better eyesight than we do first notice your movement before color or shape. It hardly matters even if you are standing still and wearing camo from your neck down, because if you can see the eagle, it can see just your face from an even greater distance.

It does not matter much if your are completely hidden in a blind and are downwind of a bear or deer.

And a moose will hear you before you hear it.

Many birds and animals are not afraid of getting close to parked vehicles, which in some scenarios can make for very convenient and comfortable blinds. Just shoot through an opening in a cloth hanging over an open window.

When I'm out photographing mountain lions, I have more success wearing this camouflage:

The Tragopan V plus looks like a nice option. I am thinking about getting one myself to leave in the backyard during the winter and spring to image birds on sticks near the feeder.

I would bet wearing that does not make a bit of difference. They can easily see the rest of your body, your face, your camera, and your movement. And I bet none of the background vegetation matches the camo color or pattern.

Are you serious? Did you look at the link? Did you think anyone would think that the background vegetation would match the color or pattern of kangaroo meat?
