As I was getting ready from some BE action hunt, the D500 started to act strangely with ERR and and non-responsive errors. So I thought I would remove the batteries thinking it was too cold and some hand warming may make the error go away. While at it I thought to remove the XQD too.

After removing the card, D500 is all happy and cosy

Is this card toast ?

Yes. You should be using the G series cards anyway.

looks like there has been some "leverage" applied at times. but yes going to a G series card will make a difference. 64GB and you'll be shooting a whole bunch. over 665 shots per card.

S <NO G, the G will be best, but the less then best M series is a bunch better then what you were getting for that now toasted card.

the S at 168MB/s and just barely above a top end CF card. but then they've been out of manufacture for about 3+ years now. in addition they'd be faster then what you have there but the potato is still stuck up the tailpipe. in actuality second from the worst for this particular camera body. the G has a clean throughput for most anything coming down the pike at this point in time. the average write speed of the D500 has a write capability higher than 280MB/s. it is for those that like the idea of the "infinite buffer".

its called working together. we do that sometimes.

i had a few S series cards to use with my D4 when it the crash test dummy for XQD v1. expensive but worked well. i believe i used a six pack of them in 32GB.

personally breaking that N card was doing oneself a favor.

$114 is very close to what I paid for a 128 Gig card earlier this year.

I see nothing that a little crazy glue will not cure

I like big cards, have two 128-GB cards in my D500. Someday I may overflow onto the SD card

i'd stand by for a few weeks if you have another one. as soon as Lexar comes back on the scene the prices will become more palatable again.

some like big some like smaller. with a D850 i'd go with the 128GB with the D500 the 32GB delivers a minimum of 665 14bit lossless compressed raw shots. i do keep a UHS II 32GB card for spill over when needed. I've hit it once since the camera came out. i do have 6 64GB cards and 2 32GB cards in XQD.

64GB XQD card ingests over 1.3K of the same size file

I am just worried if it will come undone and get caught in the camera

and that's a smart way to think. you never shove anything in there you do not trust. it broke for a reason the first time.

Send to SONY!, what the heck, you may get a 256 GB G card in replacement,
I'd suggest one 64 GB G card. one for the one slot, no need for another to lose or misplace.

I agree regarding contacting Sony. A free replacement is possible as it should not break.

I agree on that. However, if one is totally committed to the "N" series cards I have 5 sitting on the shelve behind me that I have not tossed in the recycle bin as yet. Need to make a mental note to toss the trash.
