p.1 #1 · p.1 #1 · SpaceX exhaust plume

Took a couple shots of tonight's SpaceX launch plume.
The launch was shortly after sunset so the rocket took off while it was dark on the ground,
but flew back into sunlight at high altitude.

I expected the bright plume, but not all the refractive colors and complex turbulence.

(I hope this is the right forum, it seemed the closest fit, given the options)

Interesting I guess. Not really a landscape photo at all.

Interesting images! We are currently staying about 25 miles east of the launch site. Heard about the launch time on the news just a few minutes before, and stepped outside. The launch was after local sunset, and we watched the bright yellow/orange exhaust plume climb from the horizon and then towards the south. A couple of minutes after launch, the rocket's contrail climbed into sunlight and became fairly bright. It took a few minutes before the low rumbling sounds of the rocket finally covered the 25 miles and we could hear it.

I was at the launch. This is the plume of the rocket going away. I caught the moon also. A friend of mine has access to Vandenburg. On a recent launch, he had a photo of lift off with waves breaking on the beach below.
