p.1 #1 · p.1 #1 · How to Open .ARW files on Mac?

Just got an A7RIII, and noticed that Lightroom CC 7.0.1 won't open the .ARW files (don't think ACR is compatible with the A7RIII yet). How to deal with these on a Mac (10.13.1)?

I'm new to Sony cameras (switching from Canon), so unaware of any Sony utility software, etc.

ETA: Ah, found the Sony Imaging Edge applications, that's working...just have to wait for LR compatibility...

You need exiftool to modify the modelid to a7rii

Here's the exiftool command.

For single files
exiftool -sonymodelid="ILCE-7RM2" FILE
For all the files in the directory
exiftool -sonymodelid="ILCE-7RM2" -ext ARW -r DIRECTORY

Just another thought, Try Capture One, it is free for Sony and even the Capture One Pro for Sony is only $50 upgrade. I have used LR since day one but I really like Capture. Anyhow you can use it until LR has a RAW converter for the new III.

And this will allow which application to work with .arw files?

Any application that can currently open A7rII files.

Not necessarily as the model number is specified several times (4 that I have found) in the metadata data, e.g. "SonyModelId", "CameraModelName", "Software"...

But if you change them all then yeah it should work

True, the good thing about using that command in LR is that it reads the files fine, but still says that they are A7r3 images because it’s getting that from a different place in the metadata.....
