Thanks everyone, very much appreciated.
Armd, the weather was perfectly cold but bright and clear; but strangely little activity from the several hundred eagles present.....almost all activity ---except the errant bird fishing 15 feet from the observation platform-- was behind the point and it was the least amount of activity I'd seen in the 4 years I've been going. Maybe all the birds fed well before my arrival
Geoff, what did I enjoy the most? Honestly it was the least productive kit I brought-the Oly M1ii + PL100400. It is not in the same league as the Sonys for AF-C tracking but I still love holding it. To me it is the most comfortable handling camera I've used with the a99ii a close second.
Choosing between the a9+FE100400 and the RX10iv, well I'm laughing, there is no comparison in build quality and ISO but strangely the AF-C tracking of the RX10iv and the a9 are very similar, well at least in my simplistic use of them. I'd like to think they partner very well with each other and though some have even claimed the RX10iv is 'beastly' in size (thank God I'm not that far gone yet) I really didn't notice it hanging off a shoulder while holding the a9 ready to shoot for hours.
Greg I'd still be using a DSLR if my body would allow. My big move to Sony was not necessarily by choice, just an age/weight thing. Now back home I've compared images via the a9+FE100400 to what I did in the same spot last year with a 1DXII+500ISii. To me there is not a clinically significant difference---I was distance/focal length challenged then and I was as well this time with what little activity occurring beyond the point on the island.
I will say I was really amazed at the FE100400 with the 2.0TC but that's an a9 thing having the ability to give all AF points at F11, not that mattered much, I kept it in zone for a reduced number of AF points.
