p.1 #1 · p.1 #1 · Pyrrhuloxia ?

Hi All...

Need a little help on identifying this bird. At first I thought it was a poorly colored Cardinal, but did some Googling and it appears more like a Pyrrhuloxia, or maybe something else.

Thanks
Tom

Nice shot. It looks more like the pyrrhuloxia, with the red markings around the eye as opposed to the black if it were a cardinal.

That is a cardinal. Pyrrhuloxia has a yellow beak. There are hybrids between the two which maybe this is but I think it is a female cardinal.

There has been at least on Pyrrhuloxia hanging around the bird feeder in the cactus garden at the Bosque del Apache visitors center. Its a bit shy, but with a little patience you ought to be able to photograph it.

Hi All...

Thanks everyone for chiming in on the ID of this bird. I'm going to agree with Geoff on the ID as a female cardinal.
