p.1 #1 · p.1 #1 · Grand Canyon Views at Thanksgiving

The wife asked if we could go away camping to the Grand Canyon last weekend. A bit different Thanksgiving, but who was I to say no? So...I was able to book a site at Mather Campground on Tuesday after spending a couple days constantly refreshing the website to see if one would become available. Lucky!!! Drove the family 7ish hours from Orange County Thursday morning and arrived to the campsite at 3PM. Mad rush to get the tent up and dart on over to Mather's Point. Got there and it felt a little like Disneyland. It was our first time there.

Anyways, here are the images from Thursday and Friday. I feel we got extremely lucky with both the weather and the sunset clouds.

Thank you.

Sky = single image at ISO3200, F/2.8 for 15 seconds
Terra Firma = 3 image median stack ISO1600, F/2.8 for 130 seconds each.

Nice shots! Love the colors, particularly in the "Yavapai Point Cotton Candy" photo.

I was at the north rim on Saturday morning, the bottom of the canyon was obscured by forest fire smoke, or at least it was during sunrise from Bright Angel Point (just another reason to make a return trip, I suppose).

Thanks.

I was amazed at the great light Friday evening shooting opposite of the sunset. I eventually wrapped up my session at ~5:30, and started walking back to the parking lot and thought, "wow, if only I could be on the North Rim right now". The light/clouds looking Southwest towards the sun was absolutely spectacular!

Very nice set...we also did 'something different' for our Thanksgiving and camped a few nights (well, if you call staying in a travel trailer 'camping') in Angel Fire, NM. I can't say I regret it -- we didn't have family coming in (and we didn't travel), so why the hell not!?
