I love the (M mount) version of the CV 15mm lens and use it a lot on my travels. But for times when it's too wide, what would a better compromise be? A Batis 18mm, and crop when it's too wide, or a Loxia 21mm or a Batis 25mm (and move back when it's not wide enough)?

The idea is to have a small prime lens that's a FL compromise to avoid getting the 16-35mm zoom, which is too big for my liking for traveling.

What's your next FL up from 15mm? I would go as close to that as is reasonable (so for example if it's a 35mm lens I'd probably go for a 25mm). You can always stitch if you want wider. Is it too much (size/weight/cost) to keep the CV 15mm and get a 21mm Loxia? This is a great combo in my opinion.

It looks like the Loxia 21mm is your best bet. Small, great performer and capable of producing gorgeous sunstar. It is a little bit on the hefty side for a small package though. The Batis 18mm is deceptively light for a lens of that form factor.

My next lens up is the light FE 35mm 2.8, which i love for its FL, but unfortunately, when traveling I don't use it much since I need something wider. (I tend to travel to crowded, narrow places, I guess.)

100% agree with this. I would probably go with the Batis if you don't mind that form factor as 18mm is just a great FL. From a pure quality standpoint the Loxia 21mm is a better lens overall, but both are great choices. I have rented both and want to own both, personally, and find it a hard choice. Of course if AF is a factor, try the Batis.

Over 21mm will be too far from your 15mm than I think you want to go, from your post.

Firin 20mm f/2 is nice, too. Although size wise, it's probably only worth it if you need f/2.

Thanks for your responses. If the Firin were lighter, it would be a no-brainer given its price. But the choice really is between the Batis 18 & the Loxia, with the latter being the better FL, given that I already have the 15 & the 35 covered. I have the Canon nFD 20mm 2.8, which, in theory, would be the perfect lens for what I'm looking for, but my copy, unfortunately, isn't that great. I find myself always reaching for the CV 15mm instead.

15,21 is very well gaped. 18 maybetoo close to the 15
