Wonderful images, as always, Dave! I have a slight preference for the second image, probably due to the cool color of the sky contrasting with the warmth of the cliffs. Also, I like the detail of the creek bed running down the canyon wall on the left hand side of that image. What a great image! I really need to make a trip down there one day.

Keith - thanks! It was 121 miles RT on dirt but definitely worth the experience. And yes the twilight glow played nicely on those cliffs!

Great work! I think Keith is probably right that the second has a more interesting sky, but I think that composition crops too close to the river on camera right, cutting off too much of the "near" landscape and leaving that side of the river as sort of a negative space. In my opinion the first composition is stronger because it gives interest to both sides of the river.
Hi Lee - thanks for the comments. To be honest the foreground was not that interesting, the tripod was as far out on the edge as I dared to go (I even had the tripod leg tied to my pack), and I think that in turn cut off more than desired on the near landscape on bottom right. But the real driver was the crescent moon. I had to point up higher than desired to capture the moon - but at 12mm there's not much to see. In hindsight I wish I had just placed the moon a little lower in the horizon and cropped the whole thing to 16:9! Those dirty little secrets we can do in PS!

These are awesome, Dave. Both beautiful but love the sky tonal gradation in the second.
Thanks Dave!

Love #1 especially. Great use of "bad" light. (No clouds). Love the desolation look!
Thanks Mark! I'm learning to take advantage of whatever is dealt to us. Desolation would have been a great title for the first pic. What a magical place!
