p.1 #1 · p.1 #1 · Question re Upload Size/Limiting JPEG File Size

How does everyone keep their photos below 1.4mb for uploading to the images threads?

I can't even get Lightroom to export a JPEG smaller than 1.4mb. So I'm stuck downloading it to my iPhone, then e-mailing it to myself while choosing a smaller file size with the e-mail, and finally uploading it here from my phone. I end up with a smaller image that's gone through multiple rounds of compression and looks pretty poor and low-res compared to the original.

Export from LR
settings make sure PPI is set to 72
and for size choose 1200 pixel at widest dimension
quality use 90
Should be that easy.

You can try 1500 pixel wide first which still should be less than 1.4 in most all cases.

Awesome. Just tried it and it worked well. Thanks!

You can also limit to a specific file size during export. In the export window under "file settings" there is a box to check on the lower right. Then enter in the maximum file size in Kb (1.4mb is 1400kb).

I just use flickr, and link the images to the photo thread.

It gives me an error when I try to do that and says it can’t create a file that size.

Interesting. Your comment made me curious if there was a lower limit on how small I could export files. I'm able to export full-resolution 5D4 files (6720x4480) down to 311kb before I get the following error message, "Could not create a JPEG that met your limit of 310kb. Please increase file size limit."

Hmm...I can’t even get mine below 3000kb at full resolution. Not sure what I’m doing wrong.
