Not actually a road, but cracked playa after a violent T storm heavily flash flooded the area last year. I waited 2 days for the mud to dry up enough to get cracked up like this (and be able to barely drive my 4WD into the area). The other direction (behind me) was a partial rainbow directly over an awesome butte. Absolutely insane light. This was hand held due to being a test shot for a client to see the possibility of the ultra wide angle for the situation (using the Canon 11-24mm@11mm and Sony A7R2).

f/14
1/10th
200ISO

Hope everyone is out shooting up the Fall colors! Thank you for looking and great light to you.

Love the Fg details and drama in the sky.

Gorgeous shot, Mark, loving the balance of tones in this one, looks like the viewer is actually standing there, no HDR feel at all.

A question about the shutter speed and ISO choice, though. When on a paid job I understand not bothering with a tripod, but is the reason you shot at 1/10 and ISO 200, (instead of say 1/20 and ISO 400 or 1/40 and ISO 800,) ...that the A7R2's IBIS is actually that good? Then again, 1/10 at 11mm doesn't seem like it'd require that much stability. Hence my pondering...

I love the natural feel of this shot. I can visualize being there and walking up this old road. Good stuff... Mike

Very unique composition Mark. Really like the foreground leading to the gorgeous sky.
Best,

Amazing composition, Mark. Love how that texture in the foreground is popping out.
Also, it is SO oddly satisfying to see how well the left tyre-track blends with the cracks!

Thank you Matt. I was in such a hurry to help my client I did not even think about my settings! So I am totally lucky I was stable enough to pull this one off. It is sharp all the way through. But had I had the time I would have chosen safer settings... Thanks for the great question! All the best.

That's a lovely shot there Mark. Love the way you use that UWA. The texture of the road, and the road leading to the awesome sky. Everything is working well in this. Great work.

Great detail for such a dark area. Sorta reminds me of a giant cobra slithering through the desert.

Oh wow

The foreground just drags you into the beautiful light of the sky!

Contrasting textures of fg and sky look wonderful. Vertical format just perfect.
