Sigma 45 2.8 is great alternative, AF is good enough for family shots (i dont know for toddler tho).
I dont use anymore my 55 since I enjoy much more Sigma rendering and aperture ring.

I'm trying out the Sigma 35/2 as an alternative with AF. It takes nice images, but can't replicate the same subject isolation of the CV40 wide open.

I tried the Sigma 45i, but as good as the bokeh is at f2.8, I still feel it's slower than I want. I prefer the 35/2 and have the wider view with the ability to crop.

I've been pretty happy with the Sony 55/1.8 for the size, and this lens still remains in regular rotation of options.

Faster options that are closest are the 35GM, Sigma 35/1.2 and 50GM, but I haven't been willing to size up to these (yet).

There's also the TAP with VM version of the CV40.

I recently purchased this lens due to all the great pictures in this thread. I've noticed what I believe to be focus shift on the copy of the lens I bought. How do you compensate for this while shooting with this lens?

How are your manual focus skills? Do you use focus magnification? Focus shift shouldn't be a problem.

My skills are moderate. I used a manual for some macro in the past but I've recently started more so this year with the purchase of the CV15 and 21/1.4. I like doing it so I figured I would get this lens too.

Do I just compensate for the fact that it's going to shift by focusing in front or behind the main area? I'm going to do some experimenting but I just want to know where to start before I decide to return the lens. I really don't want to cause I see what it's capable of with this thread.

Doesn’t focus shift only happen if you focus wide open and stop down to take the picture? Seems to be more of an issue with videography, or some landscape photography. The latter of which can be corrected after stopping down by using the magnification to correct for any shift.

Otherwise, for more walk around use, I only focus at the intended aperture so I don’t get any focus shift.

Maybe I'm misunderstanding. When I focus at F1.2 or F1.4 for instance, on the magnification it looks like it's in focus but after the picture is taken it is slightly misfocused. This doesn't seem to happen with the other CV lenses I have or the Loxia 21/2.8 that I've used.

The only test really is on a tripod with a static subject.

I am glad you like it, this lens is attached to my camera and I use it for travel, street and family pictures.
