STILL getting used to living w/out live-view exposure preview w/Nikon, but steadily getting the hang of it. Chimping is a PITA, esp under bright conditions. Just for fun, on the Dallas Divide, I put my wife's Nikon 200-500 on a D7200 and *boom*: lots of faraway things got quite close. First time in CO for fall color, and I'll never be satisfied with the Eastern Sierra again, where I've shot for years. We were there last Wed/Thu/Fri and on Thursday the conditions were incredible.
One thing that really stuck out to me this trip was my lack of reach. Shooting for 7-8 years w/M43 until this January, that was never an issue, and found myself shooting overwhelmingly between the FF equiv of 50-150mm. Having to 'borrow' my wife's primary lens (Sigma 70-200 2.8 ) all the time gets old, fast. I missed a lot of opportunities because I was ill-equipped.
As much of a PITA Nikon is to shoot with, though, there is SO much more headroom in the files and nothing I've ever experienced sharpens up like an NEF file. With the NIK tools, very little is needed, but what is done is just magic.
Already making plans for Crested Butte next year. CA's OK, Utah is pretty good, but there's just no place like CO for color in dramatic landscapes.
