It is, some 3rd party AF lenses is now working like sony native lenses. Might be slower than FE but eye-af is a great option for most portrait shooter. Some other object focus tracking might work as well.

Working amazingly so far. Was hoping that it would fix the issue with certain Canon lenses not being able to achieve focus in the outer portions of the frame also but I will take the eye-AF in green mode and be merry.

Tested on Sigma Art 20 and 135, Canon 85 II and 35 II. They are all functioning beautifully.

I confirmed it works with the Sony 300 2.8 II and 500 F4.
Seems to workouts as well with the 300 2.8 SSM I.

In the case of TAP, who would think that modern and vintage manual focus lenses would have Eye AF!

A feature that most DSLRs don't offer for their AF lenses!

FW 1.10 Works with the MC-11 and Canon 400 DO II. The MB V acted weird.

I assume that you use the LA-EA3 with those lenses. Could you elaborate more on how those lenses work on the A9, please? Did you notice any improvement in the tracking capability of those lenses relative to before the FW upgrade of the A9? Thanks in advance.

I may pick up the 135mm f/1.8 ZA Lens now. It's a steal at current used prices.
Unless this lens requires the LA-EA4...

The 135 requires the 4 since it is screw drive.

Geo,
Yes,
With the LA-EA3, the 300 2.8 SSM II and the 500 F4 will track a subject edge to edge with Eye-AF, and fire 10 FPS, as well as native E lenses such as the 70-200 F4/2.8 GM, and 100-400 F4-5.6.
Electronic Shutter works well too.
Unfortunately the A mount TCs do not work at all in AF mode.

That's what I feared. Thanks for confirming this.

Thanks, John! I am more interested in the tracking ability of those lenses for wildlife purposes. I do not have those Sony A-mount lenses but I do Canon Mark II lenses. I guess, I will have to try them out today then .

One other benefit of 1.10 is Profoto TTL-S controllers now work in HSS!
I am getting consistent exposures and wireless flash confirmation in camera.

Yes, it is a screw-drive lens and a noisy one at that. Frankly, if you want to try out a fast f/1.8 lens in that focal length, the Sigma is a better option. Although it is not designated as an Apo lens but I didn't notice much, if any, CA nor LoCA in the images taken with that lens while CA and LoCA are readily available in images taken with the Sony lens.

Use the Sigma 135mm if you shoot locally where there is no or minimal travel involved and use the Batis 135mm for travel. Basically, similar to the situation between the GM 85mm and Batis 85mm.

Thanks for the info. I saw some LoCA on a few Sigma 135 images but agree it's very well controlled.
There is a change the upcoming Sony 135 GM will be lighter than the Sigma (considering the 85GM is much lighter than the Sigma 85), so I think I will wait a bit more before getting the Sigma.

I love my 135 ZA, but am waiting for an E mount version. Keeping A99 IIs as they will shoot all the A mount glass.

You have a good point there. With the (almost) native AF features the Sigma is still a strong contender and at half the price of the potential GM 135mm lens, it is even more attractive. While it is true that the improved AF features have not trickled down to the A7r II and I do have serious doubt that they would due to hardware limitations (purely speculation on my part) but future Sony hi-res cameras with a faster processor will incorporate those improvements. Yup, a little bit patience won't hurt, for sure. However, for all we know, Sony may end up re-labeling that Sigma Art lens and sell it for $2K+ .

The Sigma 135 isn't exactly cheap. As good as AF with adapted glass is getting, if the Sony 135 is a couple hundred bucks more expensive than the Sigma, I'd still be inclined to go native...assuming the optical quality is at the same level of course.

The Sigma 135 is outstanding and now got even better. Very hard to be patient.
