I took this yesterday during a downpour at Nickerson Beach on Long Island, NY. I'll get back to my photos from out west tomorrow.

It's a little grainy, but you have only so much light to work with. The water spout from his beak is awesome though. I love that action captured, Morris. It is a great complement to the rain.

During a downpour and you were still shooting? I love the dedication, Morris! And you captured the skimmer really well, too!

I left the bit of noise as i feel it adds atmosphere to photos taken in weather like this. Also, noise reduction tends to soften the rain drops making the rain less obvious. I agree the rain coming off the beak and also piling up on it's head is an amazing site.

Thank you Joshua,
I was enjoying the solitude on the beach and as the sprinkle turned to a downpour I simply kept shooting and enjoying. The weather was warm so being wet did not bother me and my hat kept my face dry

Skimmers either have their own family or sub-family. The next level up is terns, and all terns and skuas are classified at the next level as gulls.

I'd have to check to see exactly which level gets them assigned to guls, but the above is the order of classification.

It's interesting because they are so specialized.

That was the first thing I noticed too! Cool shot Morris.

Last month, I shot a weekend full of Newfoundland (dog) water rescue exercises. The most compelling ones were from when it was raining! I agree with you; it can certainly add value.

I did not like the results I got with multiple conversions. The red beak seems important for it's impact
