These are a 7 image stack for each of these. Aligned and stacked in photoshop. These were done with a manual focus lens, but will be trying the built in feature tomorrow.

First focus stacked shot with the 50 Art. Series of 10 NEF images, distance 5/mid into Lr CC Clasic. Then direct export into Helicon, stacked exit and saved automatically back in Lr as a TIFF file. I have added two different styles of rendering from Helicon. I probably need to read the instructions It is very easy and love shooting in silent mode

F 1.6?... make sure Elijah doesn't see this... (although I saw he picked up a Leica 35mm 2.0 so maybe he'll lighten up a bit!)

The missing hand is the best part to me (if it was my family it'd crack me up)... unless it's really missing... 😬👍🏻

Some workout for the D850 with Nikon 500mm F4 FL VR. Heavily cropped as the birds were quite far away from our room at the hotel. All shots are with TC1.4III and handheld.

This evening I was attempting to use focus stacking again, but I just can't seem to get the remote flashes to work. I may just missing a setting. I would appreciate if you have any thoughts.

One shot this evening with the 50 Art and 2 x SB 5000's without focus stacking.

Had a work conference over the weekend in Melbourne, Australia. Upon arrival late Thursday afternoon, I went to St Kilda pier where there is a Fairy Penguin colony where you can sometimes see these tiny penguins and at the moment there are chicks. There are large boulders where they live under that adjoin the sand and the ocean. Not always guaranteed to see them, but this little chick briefly popped his head out from between the rocks to take a peek at the outside world. A difficult shot to get as I had to get the 70-200 f2.8E FL VR lens between the fence bars and there is little room for maneuvering it so as I could shoot in between the rocks. I had to try a number of openings before I managed to get the right position and it was almost pitch black in there. It was a quick panic to get the shot and the D850 was set to maximum ISO of 25,600 from factory, I had not changed it.

This is the result. It was about 1 stop underexposed and cropped about 30%. In reality, you could say that we are talking about ISO51,200 and a 30% crop on top, making it possibly look like ISO66,500?

Shot at f8 to get decent DOF at this almost minimum focus distance of about 1.5mts. I used as low a shutter speed as I dared at 1/200sec as the little guy was moving his head about. I also had little time as there were a number of people with smart phones trying to get their photos! Many wanted to see mine and compare it to theirs. Suffice to say mine looked fantastic on the rear screen, their's looked like a water color, no detail!

Run through Capture One Pro 10 RAW conversion and saved to 16bit TIFF. Opened in Photoshop and run through Noiseware noise reduction, cropped 30% and then saved.

D850 + 70-200 f2.8E FL VR + 1.4x TCIII, 1/200s f/8.0 at 280.0mm iso25600

Here's another shot at f5.6 to get the ISO down and I took the punt at 1/100sec as I already had the shot with the first photo. Luckily it seemed to work ok.

D850 + 70-200 f2.8E FL VR + 1.4x TCIII, 1/100s f/5.6 at 280.0mm iso10,000

Resolved the issue regarding focus stacking with flash photography. You cannot shoot focus stacking in silent mode with flashes. Fine in normal mode

stacked trial by Suteetat S, on Flickr

Tried auto stack mode on D850 with 105/2.8 macro VR. Not quite sure what kind of setting I should be using but tried f5.6, focus step width 5, 34 shots, interval 0. The camera fired rapidly for about 20 odd shots but the last 10 slowed down quite a bit and this was with Sony XQD G card. There was slight wind movement so I used auto align feature when I loaded into stack in PS. Autoblend in PS was ok but there was always a bit of a blur here and there especially toward the rear. However, reviewing each shots, I think that by 25 shots, pretty much the whole flowers were already covered so parts that were blurred certainly was not because I did not enough width in the stack to cover the flowers.

Part of my hesitation in picking up the Sigma 135mm Art was I never liked the images I was seeing produced by the lens in capable hands.

I really like both of these, and would love to see more work like this that shows off this lens as these images do (to me). Great job!
