Does anyone have any experience comparing these side by side? The Li-On battery apparently recycles pretty quickly and I'm wondering how well it would fair on a lightstand at a wedding reception vs an AD200 which is obviously more powerful.

I'd compare them myself via specsheets, but honestly, I don't understand all the tech talk with flashes (guide numbers, etc).

I have them both. Never tested against each other as far as battery output but the 200 will last longer. Bigger battery for one but the 860 will go forever too and battery backup is not too pricy. Personally I would use 2 or 3 ad 200 on stands use 860 as fill and trigger unit. But heck you could use 3 860 as well just not as much power or life. I think the Ad200 is rated at 600 shots full power. Check Adorama as I think they tell you in the specs

It's hard to compare recycle times between these because of the power differences. Technically, the V860SII recycles faster (1.5 seconds vs 2 seconds) but the AD200 is more powerful.

For instance, if I need a certain amount of illumination and the V860SII is at full power, what power would the AD200 be at? Presumably a lower power. And if it is a lower power, the 2 second recycle time of the AD200 is no longer 2 seconds, because it's not full power. When output matched to the S860SII shooting at full power, is the recycle time of the AD200 now 1 second? Half a second? I have no idea! lol

Correct less than full power on either is much faster recycle times and they really are both very quick. But to get faster recycle times using less power than you want the Ad200

Same as Guy, had both but never compared side by side. Since sold as I don't need anymore, but... AD200 isn't that much more powerful, 2/3-1 stop I think. From Guys number, I think theV860's do 600 shots too but double check. For me the biggest benefit of the AD200 is the spread from the bare bulb head, I don't shoot weddings, so you'll have to decide if the bare bulb modified is useful. Otherwise you get about the same price and power with 2x V860's or 1 AD200. I did like the V860 better on a light stand too...

Well... I'm trying to figure out if I want the V860SII with AA or Li-On (I have a ton of eneloops) and then what I want for higher power... Some number of AD200 and/or the 600.
I could mix and match these in a variety of ways.
I may not necessarily need the ultra fast recycle time of the AD200 and that might make the V860SII the better option with a 600.
First world problems...

Forget the AA version the Li-on is far faster by a country mile and very convenient

You get a AD200 and you will buy 3 more. I love them

I shoot a lot of HSS with fast lenses and find that the AD200's perform much better than the 860's (you need all the power you can get with HSS).

Again ditto Guy, The Li-on units are sweet. Much faster recycle and you can shoot all night long (all day in my case but you get the point.) The AA units don't hold a candle. Admittedly so switched to the TT600, but only cause I basically stopped shooting for hire but wanted a cheap flash around. But for work, it's no question.

Another to consider (actually would recommend) the AD360. Having the battery pack at the base and a 2-1 cord with extension... it has 2x the power again of the AD200, bare bulb and is MUCH more steady left on a light stand. Non TTL versions aren't too different of a price as compared too the AD200. I tried an AD600 and it was a wholly unpleasant experience on a light stand, way too top heavy.

The Ad200 comes with a Fresnel module and a Bare bulb as well so you can use them with modifiers and all that jazz. Plus I just bought a doubler where you use 2 bulbs 2 AD200 in a Bowens S mount and you can go 400 watts under one modifier. Great for outside fill with box . I just shot 3 AD 200 and 860 for portraits. Main, fill , hair all AD 200 than 860 as background at 1/4 power I was getting F6.3 from my main and everything else reduced further. So some really nice power involved

I suggest really reading from Adorama site on The Flaspoint system.

I had the 600 and the weight was not worth the trade offs for me. Less than 1 stop between a 360 and 600 and much more convenient. The 200 is even easier to carry but you lose a little more power. Don't go the AA way no matter what you decide. I have both 360's and Ad200's now along with the small 2AA battery flash for travel.

I rarely use the 600 on the stand since the extension head makes it so much better.
