p.1 #1 · p.1 #1 · Monochrome Beach at Sunset

This picture embodies an entirely new process for me. I usually shoot with a crop format Nikon DSLR, but recently I've dedicated the majority of my time and energy to video. As such, I've switched out most of my gear.

This photo was taken with:
Panasonic Lumix G7
Nikon 17-35 ƒ2.8 with Zhongyi Focal Reducer
Converted to BW in Photoshop CC 2017

If nothing else, I think that I've captured a fairly wide dynamic range and I think that the composition communicates much of the motion from the scene.

Taken at Chimney Bluffs State Park on the southern shore of Lake Ontario.

Comments and feedback are warmly welcomed.

Yea, definitely nailed the motion. Really pulls my eye in and up following the contours of the water. Very cool. Just wondering why BW? Were the colors just not really do much for this scene?

Also, Chimney Bluffs... thats up near Rochester right? If so, I think I have been there before!

Thanks for looking! BW for one reason – the colors were in the pastel palette and I felt that by enhancing the contrast in the water, the sky was left looking muddled and underwhelming – here I feel as though the contrast between the clean sky and moody waters adds tension to the scene.

You're absolutely right – it's about 45 minutes NE of Rochester; Upstate NY is home to many hidden scenic locations. This was my first experience at Chimney Bluffs and it surely won't be the last!
