Guys I also posted on dpreview... https://www.dpreview.com/forums/thread/4186920

I got it through accident and explored it. So far nobody is giving me great explanation why I am getting this.
Maybe someone here can explain?

Great find. I saw Jim replied that he's going to look at it with a scope. I suspect you'll get verification soon and perhaps an explanation as well.

Actually this is HSS without reducing your strobe power effect. Could be very usefull of course your strobes need to fire this fast

What is interesting is that many of the resulting photos I noticed have banding. But then of course Sony A9 will often have banding if shot with flash at 1/8000, unless you turn off electronic first shutter. If you turn off electronic first shutter, then you don't have banding all the way to 1/8000. But then A9 won't let me go past 1/8000. I have to keep first shutter option in menu on, then it goes to 1/32000. Banding may be an issue

Need to get a bunch of old Vivitar 285's, set then to minimal output, and you can get a duration about that short. Just need a number of them to illuminate anything useful.

banding is definitely an issue. Not any worse than what you'd get shooting 1/8000 with EFCS so it might work if the flash is just a light fill but that seriously limits the usefulness.

Just tried it with my Flashpoint eVOLV 200 with remote trigger. It looks like you maybe able to get away with 1/1600 without banding looking at playback. Thats pretty dang good if its true

Here one at 1/1600 ISO 400 at F4 with the 12-24 at 24mm

Minolta made a flash that would handle 1/12,000. It could work in slave mode or full manual. It would need an adapter, but could work.

I'm fully into these Godox / Flashpoint systems. I did get full power out at 1/32000 but it was banding until looks like 1/1600. I'll take 1/1600 any day if the week including Sundays. Lol

Always can consider picking something up like a used Rx1, which with its leaf shutter will give you 1/2000th by design.

Plenty of ways to try to work around focal plane, HSS etc, but sometimes the simply option of having a camera that just does it natively makes the most sense

Bumping an old thread. I tried this method and it did not work for me on my A9 :-(

Set shutter Type to AUTO
Set mode to shutter priority.
Turn up SS to 1/32,000
In AF-S
Kept ISO on Auto
Turned on flash to HSS (1/1)
EFCS is OFF

It will sync, but there is a lot of banding!

What am I doing wrong?

Actually, to be even more clear, if I set shutter Type to Auto, I'll get banding at high shutter speeds, regardless of iso.
However, if I set the shutter Type to Mechanical, the banding goes completely away. Then again, the purpose of this post was to sync my flash higher than 1/8,000.

EFCS needs to be on, the flash has to have HSS on.

Just turned on EFCS. And the banding is worse with it on.
