p.1 #1 · p.1 #1 · A Mountain Tarn in the Oregon Cascades

Took a hike to a previously (by me) unexplored location last weekend and was treated to a pretty good show. Still a lot of snow around here but it helps to keep the people away so that's good. I was camped at the shore of this tarn, and knew that there was some weather coming that night but I didn't expect this. Got pretty wet later that night and even heard a little thunder. More of an adventure than I bargained for and definitely an unforgettable weekend trip. Let me know what you think. I am pretty happy with them, but I am biased.

Wonderful images, Dan! Sometimes the hassle of certain images are worth it. I think these are! If the first image was mine, I might consider cropping a bit off the bottom. But that is just my personal preference. We still have a lot of snow up in the Cascades in northwestern Washington too.

well controlled the light and color in great harmony, not just casual but highly skillful aesthetic pieces of photography.

Looks like your efforts paid off. Both are very well done.
Love the color of the first one and wish I were sharing your view in the second.

Hi Keith, thanks for the comment. I actually had more cropped out of the bottom in most of the frames that I took for the first composition. This one I decided on a whim to open up a bit more, and I liked it a little better in the end. It felt like the foreground was more included. I will go back and look at it again though. Thanks for the suggestion.

I like #2. There are plenty of intense sunsets but the first just seems overdone for my tastes. I like to look at the scenery and the intense colors of the first make that difficult.

#1 is a great photo, but I can't unsee the penis silhouette in the foreground ice chunk.

Both nice captures. IMO #1 has the better colors and #2 has the stronger comp. How were the skeeters? Dave

Hey Dave. The mosquitoes were pretty bad, but they are bad everywhere right now. I have been hiking in mosquitoe country for a long time and after a while you get used to it. I saw your sparks lake picture. Beautiful work. I was wondering what evening that was? I think this is the same sunset but from the other side of broken top.

You could clone it out.

Or, you know, clone it bigger.

Just like my years in AK - you just have to get use to them. That (relatively mosquito free evening) was Monday the 24th. Most of my pics that evening were like your pic #2, the sky being b/w, until right at sunset.

Yeah that was Monday night. Quite a sunset. I have another image that I am working on of that sunset looking north.
