As someone who loves the 11-24L, I fully get the 50/50 horizon and don't mind it in the least. I find when you break the rules and it works... it's generally something special.

However... I'd be curious to see this same scene with a 10 or 15 stop ND, and the wind taking the clouds either to or away from the camera.

Great find!

Love the detail and composition, and colors too, but overall it seems a little too muted for an afternoon shot to me... almost like a long exposure from the middle of the night

Thank you Matt. The soft muted look or slightly surreal quality to the light is the very reason I wanted to process it. I guess we all see things differently. But I appreciate your honest feedback. Thank you.

Thank you so much for the feedback here. I wish I had tried that with my wonderpana at the time... Great idea!

What? No lightning? No rainbow - much less a double rainbow??

Kidding aside - As for the horizon I believe breaking rules if it's to your advantage. Sure you could crop out the top as an 8x10 (which I like as a rule of thumb for portrait landscapes) and be in the rule of thirds but then you would not have the clouds going into each corner, which is really neat! As others mention - this picture has great clarity with no distracting shadows.

Thank you so much for your feedback here Dave. It is astute. Hope life is treating you well.

nice capture, mark! I'd be interested in seeing it with the right side wider, with a little bit more of the cliff face.

Thank you for the feedback! Then you would be seeing Horseshoe Bend from the wrong side! I shot this vertically with the Canon 11-24 at 11, so that was as wide as I could go. Maybe a horizontal version is in order?
