p.1 #1 · p.1 #1 · Night Photography in Kansas

A few recent photos from rural Kansas.

All taken with Nikon D810 and 14-24mm F2.8 lens. Full exif available if you click through to photo.

C&C welcome. I've found that I've started out with a really blue white balance and am gradually moving to a bit warmer.

I really enjoyed the whole set. Nice work and it is always fun to see something from a little different perspective or technique!
Beautiful!

It is. It's on private land but they have a few other aircraft there as well. But the DC-3 composition works best for milky way.

Neat series! Certainly not what I expected when I saw Kansas. Nicely done.

These are pretty cool. For me its a tie between the milky way with the first church (#2) image and the plane.

Nice work on these, Jonathan. I like the colors and comp of the last. For me, I'd try to clone out the flag pole.

Very cool. I was born and raised in Kansas until I was 10...still have a lot of family back there...never knew there was cool stuff like that!

Hi Jonathan,

I think the #3 is the most special with the airplane and I prefer the horizon light to the yellows of #2 and 4. The fence in #2 gives it a compelling second most appealing to me. I find the pole splitting the building in #1 to be the most distracting element of all the comps.

Thanks Travis.

To be honest, I didn't know there was this cool stuff to shoot in Kansas either. You're looking at the results of numerous hours looking through people's photos of Kansas, looking at satellite images on google maps, facebook groups, etc.

The plane in the field is the best though. I don't know of another milky way friendly plane like this. (I'm sure there are a number of them out there... but I haven't seen 'em).
