After a few hazy hot and humid days here in New York City 68 and rain was a great relief. We visited the Oceanside Marine Nature Study Area a green heron landed in a tree near one of the boardwalks. I told my friends let me see if I could get close by going on the boardwalk.

-9 I realize these nice tight portrats could use some catch light in the eyes so I pull out the reflector on my SB-800 and point the flash straight up with the reflector facing the heron.

I wanted to get rid of the support post that you see in the background in the last image so I bent down to lay on my belly and this spooked the green heron. My friends got some flight shots and I was left smiling. Moments later, the heron is back in front of me fishing in the stream the board walk paralees.
Comments and suggestions welcome,
Morris
