I was lucky enough to witness the first flights of the two osprey chicks at the oceanside Marine Nature Study Area on Long Island, NY this past Sunday.

-1 First the larger chick start to jump and eventualy hovered for a moment

-2 Next the smaller chick did it. Look at dad ducking down in the nest on the right side

Nice shots - it is nice to see how the young birds appear to be testing the winds to see if they can fly

It is a lot of fun to watch and then to see them saw through the air for the first time and the petrified look on there face as they land back on the nest
