"Crepuscular rays (also known as God rays, sunbeams, sun rays, or angel lights) in atmospheric optics, are rays of sunlight that appear to radiate from the point in the sky where the sun is located." (Wikipedia)
For those who may be interested in back stories (like myself): my client and I were finishing our last of 5 days together and we had made our way from the Columbia River Gorge, down the entire Oregon Coastline to nearly the California boarder (Samuel H. Boardman State Scenic Corridor). After a very intensive weather study (all of the NW was getting hit with a huge storm covering the entire state) the only place in all of Oregon that seemed to me to have a slight chance for great light was the Terrebonne/Redmond area near Smith Rock. We decided to pay the price of a 6.5 hour drive and give it a go. Just as we arrived at Smith Rock it was in the middle of a truly torrential downpour. We put our rain gear on and went out. The storm cleared almost immediately and after about 15 minutes we were greeted with amazing displays of atmosphere, light and rays! The photo here does not do justice to what we saw!
