You MUST have a calorie counter (helps motivate) on your phone and log EVERYTHING, and you must hit your daily 10,000 steps (minimum, increase that to 10kms a day later). I lost 34 kgs in 18 months. Really works and you don't have to cut out your favourite foods (chocolate, cheese etc.) just make sure you stay around 2,000 - 2,100 calories.
