One of the tricky things to do is stay on your subject when it burst into action. Birds will sometimes telegraph that they are going to take off by turning into the wind and/or acting fidgety.

1-8 are at 600mm, 9 and 10 add 1 1.4x TC to my Sigma 150 - 600 Sport giving me 840mm. I had manual focused on the green heron in the shadows and the camera tracked it when it took off. The last two are also cropped 2x because of the distance.

Great shots, I've learned they often poop before takeoff!

Very well done Morris. This is something I struggle with. Mostly I end up with no subject or a small part of the subject when they take off - even if I am expecting the takeoff ~ Ron

Very well done Morris, and very good advice as well. I've missed my share of shots due to not staying with the subject.

Great work staying with these little bullets. As Bob mentioned, the poop is another good tell.
