While chasing lighthouses around Michigan and Ohio, I also took advantage of a lot of the scenery around and near them.
Whitefish Point gained fame in November 1975, when the ore carrier, SS Edmund Fitzgerald sank some 20 miles north of Whitefish Point during a severe early November storm. She sank with all hands, and no real clues as to why.
The Canadian singer Gordon Lightfoot, immortalized Edmund Fitzgerald when he sang of the "gales of November". This view is quite a bit more serene.
