I like the concept here but I feel the bottom third of the image is just a featureless black blob. Crop the bottom off and I feel the image will be stronger.

I'd still crop it more. Right to the very top of that black blob at the bottom of the image. That blob just does nothing for me.

I agree with chez, but would go just a little further. You have those strong, dark, ridges curving towards the shimmering part. Why not crop to those, making a stronger overall composition?

I will consider various ways to crop the image to see which ones are reasonable.
