Thanks for the review. I've been waffling on getting one of these apps for awhile. I typically use suncalc.org or mooncalc.org for sun/moon locations, which are free online and for me defeat the purpose of photographer's ephemeris. Another great website for MW photography is cleardarksky.com, which gives a really good forecast of transparency, darkness, cloud cover, visibility, humidity, etc. 48 hours out for many observations sites in whatever state you choose.

I really like the milky way interface and AR on Photopills as you've described them, so I'll go with that one.

Oh, really awesome shots too.

Photopills is probably my go too now, but PLanit works nicely with tides and scheduling too. The VR function is good too.

Love the first shot.

I just got PhotoPills so can't comment on that. However, I would recommend meteoblue for their cloud cover forecast. It shows forecasted cloud cover by various altitude in their "meteograms." It is really useful to see if the cloud cover is there but low hanging, dense throughout all altitudes or very high clouds. I used it extensively on may last trip out west. Obviously not perfect (its a forecast), but helped me plan out my days and the locations / subjects I would shoot.
