Tricolored herons are such beautiful birds and you got some great color in both images. I wonder, however, if your focus point may have been off or a microadjustment is needed. Both images seem to have the tail in best focus rather than the eye/head. If you can take a look and see where you placed the focus do that will go a long way into understanding why the eye/head/bill is not in focus.

Interesting desaturated, mostly monochrome scenery for this heron. It would be nice to know the exif as the noise is somewhat apparent in the feather detail. The subtlety is nice in the scene as the yellow legs stand out and the shots with the mud on its raised foot is well timed.

thanks for the comment. Added Exif data ..
i am using sigma 150-600 contemporary, i have been using this with d600 before and images were good.

I am still not satisfied with this lens on my new d500
