Very nice Pius. I've not seen that owl in person, so I don't know the true colors. It does look a little flat to me, and that would be easy to correct with curves or levels.Of course, if the colors are accurate I'd leave it as is ~ Ron

Pius, I see very little on that shot that is lacking....the bird pose, composition, background, perch, exposure...it's all there, and it's all very good.

The only issue that I'd suggest you look into is some minor softness in the image.....might have been a bit of an AF drift which could hopefully be sorted out by microadjusting your 800mm combo.

Great shot Pius. What a cute little owl. Love the background.

I do agree with Peter (Petkal) that overall the image looks soft. Not up to your normal IQ on all the SEO shots. Maybe that was a large crop or needed NR? Or maybe just a 7D2 thing?

Yes, it could be that the 800mm combo is front focusing somewhat, or that 7DII "thing" is causing some softness.
Pius should be able to tell if his 7DII has been giving him consistent results, particularly if he has shot BIF with it a fair bit.

Looks like this shot just missed focus. Does not appear to be a back or front-focusing issue to me..

My guess would be over-cropped, or shutter speed too slow, regardless if IS was used. Or a combo of both.

Could also be due to heat shimmer.
