One can only make great images like this one of this place by getting to the right spot early enough and being prepared for the few minutes of glory light. I've been there. You nailed it, Dave.

No focus stacking. This was shot with a 70-200 @ 120mm at f/16. The near ground is far enough away to keep everything in sharp focus.

Great light and rare snow conditions on the Whites.

Let me guess: you were cruising down on 395 and then the light show began. You pulled over just before Bishop at the bottom of the long grade to Mammoth, set up the camera just in time and then thought "I want to live here"

I love that area and have been going back there since 1988, now almost 30 years. One day l hope to live there year round and do nothing but walk around with my camera
