It is normally very cold when I have photographed Long Tail Ducks in the past but this morning it was a mild +4 C. No gloves required..
These were all taken handheld. Thanks for looking.

Beautiful set. 1200mm handheld...Wow! I have a 1DXII and just ordered a 600mm F4 II. I can't wait to try out 1200mm with my 2x III extender. My old 500mm F4 I did not pair well, so I'm excited to finally be able to use it.
