Getting excited here, arranging a short-notice trip to Florida from Scotland and planning some bird photography at Sanibel & Corkscrew. It's about 15 years since I last visited, can't remember exactly where we stayed, but looking at online prices for Hampton Inns etc gave me a shock.

Can anyone recommend decent cheap accommodation nearby? Doesn't need to be fancy, just clean and safe. Help appreciated!

Try hotels.com as a start and then go to the hotels site to book

hey kent - try posting your questions in the "trip location advice & meet-ups" forum.

perhaps you will receive more advices from the local folks.

just did a quick check of lodgings on sanibel island, and the prices are surprisingly high.

may be cheaper to rent a pop-up trailer or recreational vehicle (rv) for the duration.

If you are willing to make a 15 to 20 minutes drive to ding darling there is a la Quinta just the other side of the causeway

Thanks, I'll check it out. Back when I visited regularly la Quinta was just getting established and the rates were great.

If anyone's interested, I booked the Suburban Hotel Fort Myers based on a recommendation in another forum. Anything cheaper had a much lower review ratings and several had terrible recent comments.
