p.1 #1 · p.1 #1 · Twilight at Crescent City, California

I captured this shortly after sunset at Crescent City, California, a few weeks ago on a trip up the coast. The water effect was created by starting a 60-second exposure (with my 3-stop ND filter) shortly before a couple of larger waves rolled in. This resulted in a ghosting effect showing the before and after levels of the water against the rocks. I blended in a shorter sky exposure taken a few minutes before this.

I'd love to hear your thoughts on this one. I'm always open to ideas to improve the processing as well. Thanks!

Hi Kris,

I really like the effect you got with the long exposure on the water, and the blend with the sky looks clean at this size. The comp with the rocks is beautiful and well seen. I would be tempted to try this in black and white (paying close attention to the black point and white point in the sky and in the ground layer). The hint of color in the sky and the blueish ground layer are nice as they are right now.

Hey Kris,

The composition here is awesome with those rocks in the foreground like fingers reaching into the scene. The color isn't really working for me, I think a B&W conversion as Tim suggests would really make this one complete.

Thanks for the feedback! I appreciate suggestions to try it in B&W. Honestly, that's not usually something I do, as I like to think the color is one of the most important parts of my photos. However, I will definitely take it into consideration.

I like the composition and processing you did on this image Kris. I think the ghosting effect turned out while, particularly that you can see the rock portion under the water line. It almost looks like reflections. I might miss the color in the sky if you do a B&W conversion.

Thank you very much, Tuan!
