Most people just think it's all cotton fields, but it's actually quite diverse...

Well, well, Alabama Hills near the Sierra Nevada - didn't know about that. The Wickipedia article Fred pointed to notes different patterns of erosion in proximal areas. There have been some great documentaries showing macro changes over time in the geology of the Colorado River area, also Niagara. Really astounding. Trying to identify them as I would like to see them again.
