Hi All...

I usually drop some seed in my back yard for the quail and doves that congregate in the neighborhood. On my way back into the house, I spotted this hawk in a dead tree about 100 yards away. I think it might have been looking for a quail or dove for dinner. I think it's a sharp-shinned hawk (ID Correction: Cooper's Hawk), but I'll stand corrected if anyone more knowledgeable comes up with a more accurate identity.

I like it, Tom. It is a Cooper's Hawk, immature. The outside tail feathers, which is seen here, is shorter than the central feathers. Sharpie's outside feathers would be about the same length as the other feathers. There are other features, but not as obvious. Good shooting.

Nice photo, Tom! It's definitely a Cooper's Hawk. You can tell by the thickness of the legs; a Sharpie has much thinner legs.
