I took the D500 at to Back Bay NWR today for the first time. I paired it with the Tamron 70-200mm f/2.8. I was able to find this Great Blue Heron in one of the ponds there. It was the only bird making an appearance today. While I was there, I ran into someone shooting the Nikon 200-500mm and he let me test it out. Needless to say, I'm ready to get it!

Very nice results. The 200-500 is a very nice lens. I recommend that you compare it to both the Sigma 150-600 lens (Contemporary and Sport)

Nice photos but first one is an extremely tight crop. I recommend more generous space around left and right side. Second one is also tightly cropped at the base with too much space above the bird. Again, composition beckons.

Good timing and nice heron portraits! Everything I've seen with that lens looks very good but Morris makes a good suggestion too.

Thanks for the comment. Yeah, I should have zoomed out. I shot it at 200mm.
