Hi everyone,
New here, but not new to the E-M1/Metabones setup.
At the moment I have been doing some testing with the Canon 100-400 II, the Sigma 150-600 S, and the trusty old Canon 400/5.6. Tests can be seen here:

I would like to know is what the focus speed is like with the 100-400 II on the Mark II. On the Mark I, if it is more or less in the ball park, it focus quite quickly, but if it has to go searching, it is PAINFULLY slow, like 8 seconds from infinity to 3 meters and back (limiter on), and with the 1.4x Extender III attached, it takes 11-12 seconds! This is with firmware v2.6 loaded. With v2.1, which for me has been the most stable and quickest for S-AF (C-AF is useless anyway on the Mark I/Metabones), the first time I turn on the camera after loading the firmware but BEFORE lens calibration, it only takes 1.6 seconds to go the whole range. Camera off and back on, it is up to 6 seconds. With v2.5 and v2.6 it is slow from the get-go.
As for the focus with the TC, it does need light, but actually works quite well. I don't find it jumping around too much. And we can use all 37 central AF points too! (Eat your heart out,Canonites ;-) ) Even the 2x works well (also with 37 points) IF there is some decent light.
I do notice the lens/TC picks up a little CA (white shells above) but it is not bad, and the 100-400 is far better than the 400/5.6 in that respect. That said, I find the 400 takes the TCs somewhat better than the zoom in terms of sharpness. The exif data shows the focal length, but not the TC specifically.
All in all I like the 100-400 II best of the three, but the slow searching is a real problem. So how does it do on the Mark II? Just point the lens at the sky or a featureless surface and see how long it takes to go back and forth.
Thanks
Dan
