So everything was kinda low key leading up to this morning. The previous night brought us a hyena clan stealing an impala kill from another predator (possibly a leopard!), which provided for some awesome hierarchical interaction between the clan as well as some killer audio between all the communication and bone crunching. Spirits for the last morning were high, especially because we were heading to some property that we got to view all the time online on Safari Live!

Diatribe aside, the first major sighting of the morning were two of the Birmingham Boys. These males are part of a four lion strong coalition who control the surrounding territory and prides. We were fortunate enough to be able to pull into the sighting directly across from one of the males drinking and then dominate male graced us with his presence (and came within ten feet of the vehicle - intense!!).

The sense of power these animals exude really instills an extreme amount of awe. While all of Africa's wildlife is impressive, these males really left me completely speechless. I hope the pictures can delver a fraction of their nature.

Cheers, Eric! I'm sure you are quite familiar with both of these guys.

We've got Nhenha drinking from the waterhole and then Mfumo coming out of the bush/walking/head-on. It was such a pleasure seeing these guys in person after watching them so much online!!

Thank you, Tracey! It's really humbling to see these guys with your own eyes. Their size and presence is something that you don't really "get" until it's right in front of you. These guys are HUGE!

Thanks Jim! I kid you not, we've got a bun in the oven right now and the wife wants to try to slide to SA for a week next year. And here I was thinking that we wouldn't possibly be returning until MAYBE 2019.

You won't find me complaining (aside from the plane ride!!). Sidenote, I'm very much enjoying your Kgalagadi pics - that bat eared mom and cub was just too cool!

What a pose in the first few images! I like the B&W effect a bit more than the colors, but very nice shots all.
