Artistically, Baffin Island is like photographers Mecca. The diversity of its landscape is so substantial that there is always something grand to photograph. And then, there is, of course, its exceptional light, the light unseen anywhere else. This combination of light and dramatic landscape can make you feel as if you were lost, but somehow still on your way to Mordor. The place is desolated, a sort of a perfect asylum for soul seekers and alike, yet full of unusual natural powers.
This photo here could be one of the most striking examples of the inspiring force that light has in the act of image creation. The natural shape of the valley creates the path for the light and surrounding peaks that guard it bring darkness.
That afternoon we had the privilege to witness this game of light and shadows from the first row. To isolate this scene I used a longer lens and stitched 7 images to get this panoramic view.
