p.1 #1 · p.1 #1 · (RX1RII) I did it!...but feel a bit sick.

After months of looking around in forums/craigslist, I finally pulled the trigger on the RX1R II. I own the RX1 and it's been my favorite camera for a while. I love its simplicity and size. I've had the A7R, A7, RX100s, RX10 III, a6000 with a multiple of lenses but secretly I've never loved any camera more than the RX1 and it's small size. I sold all of the above and just concentrated on shooting with the RX1 and it was a revelation. The autofocus however was a pain every now and then and I did not like having to attach an EVF (though I loved the RX1 EVF).

After checking craigslist, I finally pulled the trigger on a great condition RX1R II for $2000. All other cameras I've bought (A7R, RX10 III, RX1 etc) were less than $900 so it's a big jump in price for me. I've never spent so much money in my life on one single device so part of me feels uneasy about the purchase but I can't deny it's everything I ever wanted in a camera. How do fellow RX1R II users cope with their purchase?

The price you paid for the RX1 RII is really low. Congrats!

Although that camera was enjoyable to use and it generates superb image qualities, I couldn't warm up to it. So, after about 2 months or so, I sold mine. I bought it used, I added a few items and ended up selling for approximately the same price. I am perfectly happy with my A7r IIs and their lenses. It just shows that our needs and preferences vary quite a bit.

No need at all for you to feel sick. Spare a thought for the person who saw that Craigslist ad, thought "Wow, that's a bargain. I'll buy it.", only to discover that the RX1R II had just been sold.

I'd probably jumped on one at that price though I'm hoping the next gen adds some more features like a touch screen and high speed electronic shutter. Half the time I go out the camera in my hand is the RX1. Congrats.

I paid a whole lot more for mine and I still love it. It's the perfect second camera when I'm shooting around Africa. It is fantastic

That's a great price for this camera. I hope it's perfect!

I could not live without mine.

But can you live without the $178.00 lens hood?

That hood is very overpriced. However, sometimes there are sales on it. I bought it for $78 at B&H.

I love my RX1RII. If it makes you happy shooting with it, then it's a good purchase! It makes for a great pair with the A7RII .

Great how people customize their RX1s, looking after their little guys with cases, bags etc., lol. I love passing on the 49-37mm step down ring/lens hood idea ($5.95 at BH), assuming the lens is the same at the front end as vsn 1 is. I love being able to reach for the camera and start shooting with minimal futzing around. Good luck with it, it's one of those cameras that just delivers very consistent results, and is versatile enough to work across a wide range of interests. What is money for - you have to enjoy life.

I bought mine for $78 from B&H too, Fred. I was trying (unsuccessfully as it turned out) to wind you up...

You got an excellent deal. I'd jump at 2k as well. You got quite a few good deals at under 900 too.

I have also just bought a mint RX1r2 used for a good price. It is a lot of money but it is a great little camera. I went from RX1 to Sony FE35 2.8 to RX1r2. Really missed having 2 cameras in my bag. I like using 21mm and 35mm or 35mm and 90mm. Having the RX1r2 in the systems leaves a lot of flexibility for my different setups and I do not have to change lenses that much. The Sonnar lens is really lovely and I also really like the new Sony sensor.

My ultra-compact setup is: Rx1r2 or RX100 V3
My medium-compact setup is: Voigtlander 15mm V2, Rx1r2+Sony A7r2, Leica Macro 90
My landscape setup is: A7r2, Loxia 21, Zeiss 35 1.4 ZM, Loxia 50 and Leica Macro 90

I'm using the RX1R II + the Panasonic ZS100 for flexibility.

What's the best grip you guys have used? Does the thumb grip enhance the handling significantly? I'm looking for something that has the least impact on size and weight. I've tried the Fotodiox and RRS. They are both good but too heavy for my taste.

I got the Ulysses grip that Fred uses (pictured on his camera in the photo above on the previous page). It's great - very substantial grip, low profile and low weight.

Here's the link I got from Fred:
