I can't find what the specs will be on the coming Sony Alpha a7III in the 2Q 2017 but wondered if I should get the A7II now or wait for the A7III

Anyone know from the rumors if Sony will up the 24.3 MG?

The A7II just dropped in price on B&H to $1498 with the rebate
Thanks

You can't find the specs-- because nobody can.

And I'm confident nobody can really tell you whether you're better buying something real now or something expected (but unknown) later. That has so much to do with your own personal needs, budget, plans. For instance, I wouldn't buy either, since I own an A7rII-- and if I didn't, I'd be considering one (based on my needs, wants, budget). You see? It really depends on a lot of factors.

That said, we're all about as confident there will be an A7III as we are there will be an iPhone 8. What those future devices are comprised of... is all speculation at this point.

One thing for sure is the April earthquake in Japan caused a delay in production of the camera's chips

Two essential things to consider:
a) what kind of camera do you currently have and is any kind of upgrade urgent?
b) how much are you willing to spend - any new A7 series camera will cost upfront quite a bit. Buying used/refurbished is always a good idea regarding price and depreciation or at least waiting after a new camera model is released (which does not work so well currently with the A7R II since its price is still quite high after 1.5 years of release due to high demand I guess).

I presently have the A7 but it is being modified for astrophotography
Although I can still will be able to use it for daylight use it will have to use special filter to accomplish it
I really like the newer A7II but where getting close for the release of the new A7III and figure better to have the latest and greatest

Yes, Sony's sensor fabrication had a very serious slowdown/stop of production for much of the summer as a result of the earthquake according to interviews.

The sky is also visibly blue when the clouds aren't in the way...

But neither of these facts adds any clarification to: what the A7III specs could be, when/if an A7III will be announced, or if it makes any sense for you to buy now or wait.

All is a very personal decision of course - I can only tell from my own perspective and how I would decide. I see performance increases in recent camera models becoming more marginal than for example 5-10 years ago. On the same side, prices have increased a lot more for new cameras with this less big increase in technology innovation. I find it better to stick to an older camera model and jump over 1-2 camera generations before making an upgrade. This works well for me at least.

Point well taken, considering the A7II seems to proved itself and when B&H shows the higher price of the A7III could make me back off real fast

I'm waiting to see what happens to the A7II price when the A7III is (eventually) announced. Either the A7III will be impossible to resist, or the A7II price will (hopefully) drop further, at least on the used market. My original A7 will likely be worth around $20 at that point

I just dropped over $500 on the Astro Conversions on my A7 so its worth a lot to me but maybe nothing to another user

Lossless compressed RAW might be another reason to wait... presuming they will actually do this correctly in the next camera.
