p.1 #1 · p.1 #1 · My Desert Dream - Reflection Canyon

Every since getting into landscape photography, Reflection Canyon has been high up on my list of places I wanted to see. It wasn't just the view itself, which is spectacular, it was the process of getting the photo. For those who don't know; this shot isn't easy to access. It requires driving about 50 miles down a dirt road and then a 8-10 mile hike out to an extremely remote canyon view. There is no access the water on the entire trip so you must carry enough to get youself 16-20 miles in total.

With the amount of effort needed to get here, one has to only hope for good looking skies and unfortunately my visit was timed with a high pressure system and clear skies. Enjoy and all C&C is welcomed and appreciated. Thanks for looking.

That's on my list, too. Need low water, don't you? Not that that's been a problem these last couple of years. Do you have a tighter crop? The foreground in #2 is, to my eye, anyway, not interesting enough to command half of the frame. While you got a bit of color in the sky in #1, it seems that it's the meandering water, reflection & rock walls/features that are the main subject.

I prefer the perspective and colors of the first one but they're both excellent. Well worth the long walk, at least to me since I didn't have to do it. . Thanks for sharing.

Thanks for the reply Monika -

Yeah this is fairly low water but definitely not it's low point for the year. That usually happens in April; you would then see a spine in the middle that would carve out more twists.

If you've been to the spot you know there is little in the terms of foreground to add. It's mostly slickrock and there are a few dry desert plants here and there; I have a couple of comps with them in it but the lighting wasn't as good in those.

I will try to crop some of the sky for #1 but I wanted to include the entire water scene and still keep it a 2:3 ratio.

Glad you enjoy the photos - it's well worth the walk just to be in a place like this without the distractions of hoards of people.

I really like #2. Its composition is superior in my opinion and colors are more real and not over saturated.
