Everything looked set for a stunning sunset show above Three Fingered Jack on a trip up to Santiam Pass a couple weeks ago. Then the sun went behind a bank of clouds to the west and all the great color only appeared to the south and east of this view. This light on the cloud shrouding the peak only lasted a few seconds. On Velvia 50 with Pentax 67 90mm, ND grad and polarizer. Feedback always welcome.

Thanks Dan, I especially love the blues and pinks/purples you can get with Velvia.

I really like the shot. Comp and subject work well with the crop of the camera. Personal taste, I would punch up the contrast, exposure, and levels a hair but I can't fault you on that. Well done.

Heron, Very cool shot... The soft color and light give the image a very peaceful feeling. I might be tempted to crop a little off the top down to the first little notch in the cloud like a 16x9 AR. Nice Job here. regards,
Dean

Thanks for the comment Mike. I can see pushing this a little more, I kept it subdued 'cause I liked the more subtle effect for this one.

Thanks for the feedback and comments. I originally tried out a wider aspect ratio, which did focus more attention on the mountain. I ended up settling on the original proportions because I liked the way it captured the looming feel of that huge cloud bank.

I like the light on the peak and ridge and the subtle palette of color. I also like the empty quarter in the sky. It balances nicely with the lenticular.

My criticism is that the trees in the foreground could have a stronger light/dark pattern to them. Not that you can do anything about that.

The over all subtleness of this photo is appealing.

Thanks for your observations Claude. I agree about the foreground, I've been exploring this area over the last month or so trying to find some different views of this and other nearby peaks. The Oregon Cascades don't offer near as many long view options as the granite ranges that are largely above tree line do.
