I can find three RTHs a day where I live here in the Appalachians but a Red-shouldered (if this is what it is) is a treat. Found this one two weeks ago at Merritt Island Nat. Wildlife Refuge. PLEASE correct me if wrong on the ID. It does remind me of Broad-winged Hawks we also have here in the mountains.
I can't confirm the ID but that's a nice, clean portrait! Rarely, if ever it seems, do the hawks present such an opportunity so it's great you were in the right place at the right time!
I'm not a hawk expert by any means, but there does appear to be a bit of color on the shoulder that would indicate RSH. Nicely done Robert, but I do think the shot could be brightened a bit ~ Ron

I'm not terribly good with hawks but I think this is likely a juvenile Red-shouldered. It is a juvenile for sure whether it is RS or BW but I do see the red area over the shoulder it just isn't as pronounced in the juvenile. The tail looks juvenile for sure.
