Yes, and it is not a problem.

So, again, purely IMO, there might be a coverage difference between D750 and D810. It exists and might be visible, but in practical terms, probably does not make that big of a deal.

I agree with the rest of your post, but this is exactly the hair I'm splitting: the D600, D610, and D800 cameras had older AF sensors that weren't precise enough for their resolution, while the D600, D610, and D750 have limited frame coverage, and that *does* make a difference in terms of composition.

And hell, only the D750 has an AF sensor capable of shooting into really low light, something the 6D did first, and something that the 5Ds and 5D IV now also share.

It would have to be at least 30 MP for me to upgrade from my 6D; but I doubt that will happen, as it would divert sales from the 5D-4. The rumored 24-25 MP is more likely.

As to all these comparisons to Nikon's, or for that matter Sony, Canon apparently didn't consider it of much importance with the 5D-4!

A FF version of the 80D @ 30 MP and they might as well take my money now.
Might even retire both my 5DII and 70D.

With the 5D4 at "just" 32MP I think the 6D2 is going to likely feature 24, maximum 28MP. At 5FPS, 24MP, and with a similar AF system to the 80D at a not totally silly price, and I think they will have a winner. The original 6D was a fantastic camera for not so intensive autofocus work - the small size, accessible price point, but top notch IQ was a great fit for what I was looking for.

FF 80D is a winner, not too worried about MP (it's gonna have at least 20) but dual cards would have me sold!

Oh, and an AF toggle button!

If the sensor is good and they put DP AF on it....and price it at $1999, it'll be a smash hit.

I'd be shocked if there's no 4k, although I couldn't care less.

While the current, rumored, specs. may well attract first time FF buyers, for me,they don't offer "enough" to warrant an "upgrade" from my 6D.

Paired with a 7D-2, my 6D is primarily for LS use, so improvements in burst-rate, & AF are of less importance. It would take at least 28 MP for me to even consider upgrading.

If Canon would produce a camera with their latest sensor technology, and MP "somewhere" between the 5D4, & 5DS/r they would certainly have a smash hit!

So you want it to be between 30mp and 50mp, with the newest sensor. At a lower price than the 5DIV? Seems like asking for a lot.

I would think something like 24mp would be more likely. I don't see the 6DII having a greater resolution than the 5DIV.

That was an additional, off-topic, statement: By "a camera", I was not referring to a 6D upgrade.

If history is any guide, it should be to the 5DIV as the 6D was to the 5DIII.

25MP, DPAF, tilt/touch screen, dual SD slots all sounds great. 19 AF points concerns me but I would be ok if all points were cross type, f/8 capable and had larger coverage. I assume the image improvements from 6D to 6D2 will be a similar jump from what we saw from 5D3 to 5D4. If there is a bump in FPS (6fps) combined with some other 80D features (ergonomics and anti-flicker come to mind) I would consider not only selling my 6D but my 80D too. At that point, the only benefit the 80D would have is the crop factor.

So that would mean a few basics close to this

28.4 MP ( I could live with that )
11 AF pt's ( I would hope for more )
5.5 FPS (at least 6 would be nice )
14.0 EVS (very nice)
No dual card (bummer)
A bell or whistle extra than the 5DIV which might be a flip screen. Touch is a given.
Logic there is because the 6D had GPS where as the 5DIII did not. Might be unfounded logic but it's fun to dream.
Price tag of about $2100

Yup, I think I'd cave and pick one up.

Dave

The focusing should be at least as good as the 80D, right?

AF generally improves with each new model of Canon cameras. That may include an increase in the number of AF points, too. Sensor quality is typically essentially in the same ballpark as the current 5D-series model. (Leave the 5DsR out of that comparison, though.)

Also, generally speaking a model type is likely to target more or less the same sort of buyer, so expect pricing to be similar (or maybe a little higher) than the original list price of the previous model. Expect that body to be quite similar, too.

I suspect it will be something like that, but only 24-26MP. Canon do oddball resolutions so 25MP sounds entirely plausible. But that would still be a pretty sweet camera if priced right. I suspect it will be vidoe crippled and only offer 1080p, although it might seem odd, but I think they should offer a 1440p mode as so many monitors even for gaming offer this resolution it's the new 1080p.

I am confident Canon will make it a FF 80D. It's what the market really needs and would present an easy upgrade path for current 70D and 80D users. The 6D was more to hold over the crowd that wanted something similar to the 5D2, but at a similar price. Those days are long gone now. Thankfully.

That wasn't the case for a long time, we went from EOS 5 to 5DII with very little improvement in AF. The old EOS 5 AF was tweaked and used for several years. It was fine for static subjects but utterly rubbish for most action..
