I'll speculate, this would be the camera I'd buy in a heart beat:

24 mpix
Improved DR ala 80D, 1DxII and 5DIV
5 fps
80D AF
Max non-expandable ISO 25600
SD card slot - no big deal since I bought a Sandisk Extreme 16 gb for 10 EUR recently...
Under 2000 EUR/USD.

24 MP is a nice even number that makes some sense. I'd really be surprised not to see SD slots. CF is a dying technology and many prospective users have 6Ds or lesser SD-based cameras already.

I'd think about a 6D with Milan's specs, especially if it weighed the same as my 80D.

True, but I suspect that's because the 7D2, like the 1DX, is partially resolution-limited to accommodate the higher framerate. The 5D4 doesn't really slot into the same spot in the line I think.

I also expect 24Mp for the 6D2, but of course I could be wrong.

That is because they wanted 10FPS and 20MP was what they had at the time to achieve it with the other hardware.

That's true. And the 80D did come out some time after the 7D2 as well. New sensor technology, which appears to have made its debut on the 80D.

I think Canon pretty much has to release a camera with the specs I wrote earlier:

- they face serious competition from Nikon D600 and D750, both are 24 mpix if I'm not mistaken
- they can't release anything with more than 24 mpix in this price range. If it had 28mpix, who'd buy 5DIV, that costs much more?
- they HAVE to implement 80D AF, because Nikon D600/D750 have much better AF modules than 6D.
- they pretty much cannot give it more than 5 fps. Because 24mpix is already more than enough for most people and who would buy 7fps 5DIV if 6D did the same or if it did 6fps?

Dual card slots, extra DR, and articulating screen would have me sold 10 times over.

Think about the dual card slots. You could put two 128+ GB cards into there set for dual write of RAW files to each one. You would never have to carry a card case or even open the card door for an entire trip. If one card fails, no problem!

Bump for a new spec rumor posting from CR.

No 4k, but has dual SD-card slots. I can see a lot of people using these as secondary cameras to 5D IV/1D X II (or predecessors), and very few people caring about the lack of 4k, especially if the 1080p is at least decent.

Dual SD and articulating screen with new sensor tech would be enough for many to upgrade. I think the 6D should be aimed at the d750 type market and then maybe come out with a lower end model to undercut the d610. Or they could continue production of the 6D and just keep lowering the price on it since the R&D money has been paid off long ago.

I just worry a little about the tilting screen mention and not an articulating screen mention, if there is a difference. The tilting screens like the d750 are pretty useless when shooting low to the ground in portrait orientation. Make it a FF 80D with dual cards, and the world will be a happy place.

Yeah, Canon would upset a lot of folks if their tilting screen were not of the type found on the 60D/70D/80D cameras and T3i+ Rebels.

As for the D610: it's not really a camera worth competing with, Canon should rightly target the D750 with the 6D line. Hell, the only reason we still have a D610 is because Nikon bungled the Q/C on the D600; the D750 is the real replacement for that slot, but Nikon has to get their R&D dollars back.

With the D750 giving 6.5 fps,the 51-point autofocus system, with 11 available at f/8 for (according to B & H today) $1,796...I'd say the 6DII needs to deliver spec-wise, especially if it's going to be priced over $2,000.

Also- a clean used 5D3 is another option it'll have to compete with, as the prices of those have obviously dropped with the 5D4 out.

Even a gimped 4K is better than 1080p, you can always resample the 4K video and produce much higher quality 1080p than you can get natively shooting FHD. Lack of 4K would be poor decision even with Canon crippling. I think 4K TV's and monitors are now making a decent dent in sales so leaving it out of a 2017 camera would be poor form. Can't see the 6DII feature set getting anywhere near the D750 replacement, best feature will probably be 80D class AF and possible tilt screen, all while costing over $2K

~14 stops of DR, any better noise at high ISO canon can squeze.

rest can swing.

Dont care about video in the least

Looks like it's comming pretty much with the same specs as I and some other users predicted:

GPS+Wifi (the current one has them as well if I'm not mistaken) + NFC
Tilt screen
Dual SD slot (surprising for me, but not a hassle as mentioned above).

It's nothing compared to the shaking of heads I got for suggesting that the 5D IV would only do 7 frames per second
